Gurgaon, October 10, 2015: With the growing trend of nuclear families and in order to make children understand the importance of elders, Suncity World School, Gurgaon organised a visit to the old age home “Age Well Home”. Class 10th students were taken to meet and spend time with the residents of the geriatric centre. Nowadays a major portion of our society comprises of nuclear families therefore; children growing up in these families tend to lose a connection with their elders. The main aim of the visit was to build on their sanskaars- the value of life, which actually sustain life and it is the mainstay of education imparted at Suncity World School.
"They are in the last stages of their life yet they are all full of life!” exclaimed a student after his return from the old age home. On their visit, the students played various indoor games like chess, ludo, scrabble and shared time having competitions, poetry reading sessions, discussing their likes and dislikes and above all a session to understand that every generation needs the other – life always comes a full circle. They also carried numerous gifts for the elders including health drinks, blankets, woolens, adult diapers, and food.
Ms Rupa Chakravarty, Principal, Suncity School said, “With these kind of activities we try to inculcate the Indian values in them. The Indian way of life requires us to pay our obeisance to our elders and to respect them. Suncity World School always tries to focus towards an all round development of the child which is not possible by having only academic knowledge.”
The residents of the old age home felt very elated to receive such warmth as students paid homage to them in the traditional Indian style. The residents complimented them on the sanskars imparted by their school and families. It was an experience which will reflect in their behavior forever and remain memorable and a learning to carry forth in life.
Mr. Sarkar, a 73 years old resident of the geriatric centre said, "On meeting these kids we felt as if we are meeting our own family members. Their behavior and mannerism displayed the sanskaars they must have received at their home and school. We want to thank the school for sending the kids to us.”
The IQ of the students will grow with the learning culture at school but the EQ that is important to sustain life and is required forever is endorsed through this life reflecting experience.
