Students learnt Fashion Styling in a Workshop at UIFT &VD

Chandigarh, September 14, 2023: University Institute of fashion Technology & Vocational Development, Panjab University organised  National level skill development workshop from 13-15 September 2023 under the aegis of RUSA. Students from different departments of Panjab University  like UIET,  Centre for Systems biology and bioinformatics, History, Evening studies, UIFT & VD, Microbiology and other universities and colleges like Amity University, BBK DAV college etc. applied for the course. Fifty participants were short listed to attend the workshop.

In the inaugural session Prof. Rajeev K. Puri, Coordinator RUSA shared the vision of RUSA, which aims at materializing ideas of the young students through start-up support systems. Dr. Anu H. Gupta, Chairperson of UIFT & VD department, talked about the institute's goal of collaborating with RUSA, to provide its students the expertise of the fashion industry. She also talked about the importance of Fashion and styling on industrial level and welcomed on dice Ms. Aishwarya Bansal, fashion stylist and a young entrepreneur owning a social media  and content creating company “SOSHO”.

Aishwarya Bansal commenced the  first session of the workshop by challenging the participants to bring outfits they wished to style. This interactive approach allowed the attendees to put their creative flair to the test while receiving invaluable guidance from a seasoned fashion stylist.

The Styling Challenge
Participants were given a mere few minutes to accessorize their outfits. This exercise not only tested their ability to think on their feet but also encouraged them to explore various accessories, from jewellery to belts, scarves, and footwear. The room was buzzing with excitement as participants scrambled to add the finishing touches to their ensembles.

Individualized Feedback
Aishwarya’s personalized approach was the highlight of the workshop. She engaged with each student individually, taking the time to understand their vision and the story they aimed to tell through their styled outfits. Her feedback was constructive, insightful, and tailored to the unique strengths and weaknesses of each participant. This approach not only enhanced their styling skills but also boosted their confidence.

The third session of Workshop taken by another resource person Ms. Mohini Marwahawas an engaging and informative experience for all participants. Mohini is a fashion Designer, an entrepreneur and owns a clothing brand by the label “Moji by M”. The session commenced with a warm welcome to Ms. Mohini Marwaha, who has carved a niche in the world of fashion styling and makeup. Her presence set an exciting tone for the day's activities.

The primary focus of this was to delve into the art of draping a saree. The attendees were eager to learn and participate in a hands-on saree draping challenge that lasted for 5 minutes. This challenge helped the students put their theoretical knowledge into practical use. During the session, Mohini demonstrated several techniques for saree draping, including the basic saree drape with crease, free-flowing saree drape, lehenga saree drape (both front and back styles), and the cowl saree drape.

These diverse draping styles showcased the versatility of the saree as a traditional attire, with each style reflecting a unique aesthetic.Additionally, she  shared numerous saree draping hacks, providing valuable insights and tips that can save time and enhance the overall appearance when donning this elegant garment. Her expertise and engaging teaching style left the participants feeling empowered and well-equipped with knowledge. This session was a huge success, offering participants valuable insights into the art of saree draping and enhancing their skill set in the realm of fashion styling. The students were excited about the learnings of all the three sessions.
