Chandigarh, 28 September 2026: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, celebrated International Day for Universal Access to Information with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of equitable access to reliable and trustworthy information. The event was organised in the context of the 2026 theme, “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The Role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder.” Dr. Khushpreet Singh Brar, Chairperson of the Department, also addressed the students and highlighted the importance of universal access to information in the contemporary digital environment.
The students of the department also conducted a quiz based on information access, libraries, information literacy and related aspects of Library and Information Science. The quiz encouraged active participation among the students and provided an interesting way to assess and enhance their knowledge about the importance of universal access to information.
The event concluded by emphasising the importance of universal, inclusive and equitable access to information and the role of libraries and information professionals in building informed and knowledge based societies.
