Chandigarh, November 14, 2017: To mark the celebration of Children’s day, a program called ‘Satark Main, Surakshit Main’ was launched today at Chandigarh by SCPCR and Save the Children. The program is an E-Learning Module on Child Sexual Abuse and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 meant to create awareness and promote child safety in the state of Punjab.

Jatin Mondar, Project Director for Save the Children in Punjab said that the module aims to create awareness among children on child sexual abuse and educate them on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, 2012.

At event, launching the poster to sensitize children on safe and unsafe touch and educate them on reporting mechanism for unsafe situations, Maninder Singh Sarkaria, Deputy Director SCERT, Punjab emphasized on importance of such education materials and called for putting it in all schools in state .

PSCPCR Chairperson Mr. Sukesh Kalia said that in the first phase of launch, this module would reach out to 500 government primary schools in four districts of Punjab. He congratulated Save the Children and Department of Education, Punjab on taking this initiative to make children aware and safe. On this occasion, Shri Vijay Kumar, Deputy Director WCD conveyed that module should be shown to each and every child in the state and Education Department would extend all support to Save the Children to take this module.

The participants at event included key officials from state including Dy. Director SCPCR Rajwinder Singh Gill, officials from Dept. of Women and Child, Education Departments officials mainly Principals from schools, officials from District Institute for Education and Trainings, and ICPS staff.
