Sri Lankan Theatre Expert to Train SUPVA Students for 40 Days

Rohtak, September 17, 2026: Acting students of the 2021 batch at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) will get hands-on exposure to Sri Lankan theatre as renowned theatre practitioner and University of Colombo senior lecturer Dr Chamika Hathlahawatta conducts a 40-day training programme at the university.
Dr Hathlahawatta, a prominent figure in Sri Lankan theatre, was welcomed by faculty members and students of the Faculty of Film and Television (FTV) on his arrival at SUPVA.
FTV Faculty-in-Charge Mahesh TP said Dr Hathlahawatta holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Drama and Theatre and a PhD in Philosophy. He had earlier visited SUPVA during the Bharat Rang Mahotsav in February, when Sri Lankan artistes staged Colombo Hate Thorana, a play written and directed by him.
Training focus: SUPVA Vice-Chancellor Dr Amit Arya said the programme would provide practical training in acting, physical expression, voice, stage discipline and storytelling techniques. Students would also explore Sri Lankan folk theatre traditions, distinctive theatrical styles and their links with contemporary theatre.
The initiative aims to expose students to new possibilities in experimental theatre while giving them international theatrical experience and strengthening cultural and theatre exchange between SUPVA and Sri Lanka.
