Sony SAB artists are known for bringing depth and individuality to their on-screen characters and often their wardrobe becomes an extension of their personality. From carefully curated sarees to statement accessories and distinctive styling, costumes play a key role in shaping memorable characters. Reflecting on this unique connection between fashion and storytelling, actors - Gulki Joshi, Arjun Punjj, Muskan Bamne and Deeksha Joshi, open up about how costumes contribute to character and the actor’s confidence and storytelling.
Speaking about how costumes help shape their characters, the actors shared: "Gulki Joshi who essays the role of Dr Srishty Agarwal in Yaadein, said, “I truly believe costumes are a gateway into understanding a character. The moment I wear an outfit designed for my role I instantly begin to feel more connected to the person I’m portraying. Every little detail from the fabric to the styling, reflects the character’s personality, journey, and emotions. Over time, I’ve developed a genuine fascination for my wardrobe because it tells a story beyond dialogues. A thoughtfully designed look not only enhances performance but also gives an actor immense confidence while facing the camera.”
Arjun Punjj who essays the role of Diggy in Yaadein, shared, “I think every actor has at least one costume they secretly wish they could take home after the shoot! (laughs) Clothes often become a reflection of the character’s personality, and that naturally influences the way we perform. As actors, we spend so much time in these costumes that they almost become a part of us. Sometimes, even wearing a jacket or watch styled a certain way changes your look. Fashion in storytelling is subtle but extremely powerful because audiences connect with characters visually before they even connect emotionally.”
Muskan Bamne who essays the role of Shanaya in Pushpa Impossible, shared, “One of the most exciting aspects of playing a character is exploring their fashion identity. Costumes help me step into a completely different world and mindset. I love seeing how a character’s wardrobe evolves with their journey because it mirrors their emotional growth too. There are days when a costume instantly lifts your mood and helps you perform better. I’ve always enjoyed exploring different styles through my characters because it allows me to experiment creatively as an actor. Wearing the right outfit instantly boosts confidence and helps me perform scenes more naturally.”
Deeksha Joshi who essays the role of Deepti in Pushpa Impossible, shared, “Costumes have a huge role in helping actors feel believable on screen. Even something as simple as the colours or styling can completely change your energy and mindset while performing. I personally love observing the detailing that goes into creating every look because it tells a story without words. There’s also a comfort and familiarity that develops with certain costumes over time, and that emotional connection makes performing even more natural.”
