Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Actress Sayani Gupta has made a strong entry into the international film festival circuit with her directorial debut, Aasmani. The short film, written and directed by Gupta, will be screened at 10 prestigious film festivals across the United States, Canada, Japan and India over the next two months. The line-up includes the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival, Tokyo International Short Film Festival, India International Film Festival of Boston, Chicago South Asian Film Festival and Atlanta International Film Festival, among others.
The film has also established a strong presence in India. Aasmani has been selected for the short film competition section at IDSFFK, Kerala, and earlier secured a place in the India Competition at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival. Official announcements for four other festivals are still awaited.
The film has already won several honours at the 59th WorldFest-Houston, including the REMI Special Jury Award and Best Children/Family Film honour. At its heart, Aasmani is a tender story about the bond between a grandmother and granddaughter and their powder-blue car, exploring love, relationships, loss and friendship. Its simplicity has helped the story connect with audiences across diverse cultures.
The global journey of Aasmani stands as a testament to the universal power of heartfelt storytelling—proving that stories told with honesty and simplicity know no boundaries.
