SERVICES’ FINEST SHINE AS 72ND INTER-SERVICES HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDES AT JALANDHAR

Jalandhar, March 13, 2026: The 72nd Inter-Services Hockey Championship 2025–26 concluded with a grand closing ceremony at the Vajra Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Army Hockey Node (AHN), Jalandhar, under the aegis of the Army Sports Control Board. Hosted by Vajra Corps, the championship brought together the finest hockey talent from the Services, showcasing exceptional skill while reinforcing the spirit of sportsmanship, physical excellence and inter-service camaraderie.
Conducted from 09 to 13 March 2026, the tournament featured Army Red, Army Green, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, competing in a Round Robin League format. The championship culminated in an exciting final between Army Red and Indian Navy, with Army Red emerging victorious by 6-5 decided through a Penalty Shoot Out.
The final match was a thrilling contest marked by high tempo, tactical brilliance and exceptional stick work, keeping spectators engaged until the final whistle.
The championship drew enthusiastic participation from the local community, veterans and sports enthusiasts, celebrating the proud legacy of Services hockey while inspiring youth to pursue excellence through sports and service to the Nation.
Army Hockey Node, Jalandhar continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing elite hockey talent through structured training and competitive exposure within the Services.
Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was attended by eminent hockey personalities, former Olympians, FIH officials, selectors from Hockey India and senior civil administration representatives, who interacted with the players and encouraged emerging talent.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural programme showcasing the rich dance and cultural traditions of Punjab, followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
The successful conduct of the championship reaffirmed Indian Army’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent, promoting excellence, discipline and teamwork while strengthening the bonds of camaraderie among the Services.
