Rohtak, January 6, 2026: With a strong focus on foundational learning and holistic education reform, Rohtak district is set to achieve 100% NIPUN status in primary education by March 2026, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said while chairing the monthly review meeting of the Education Department at the Mini Secretariat, Rohtak.
Reviewing the progress of the flagship district initiative “Padhe Rohtak–Likhe Rohtak”, the Deputy Commissioner directed officers to sustain momentum and work in a mission mode to ensure that all children from Classes I to V attain age-appropriate reading, writing, and basic numeracy skills. He emphasized that foundational literacy and numeracy form the backbone of quality education, and Rohtak’s initiative is emerging as a model for systemic education reform.
Strong Progress under NIPUN Rohtak
District assessment data indicates that the targets set in the previous review have been achieved as planned.
• 1,014 students have already progressed from one competency level to higher levels of proficiency, achieving NIPUN benchmarks within the stipulated timeframe.
• 1,888 additional students are currently under focused remediation and are expected to improve their competency levels within the next phase.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officers to ensure 100% student attendance in classrooms, stating that consistent presence is critical to accelerating learning outcomes.
Zero Period – Rohtak’s Innovation Goes Statewide
Under the Zero Period initiative, a daily 40-minute dedicated learning slot has been implemented in all government primary schools, focusing exclusively on reading fluency and numeracy skills. Owing to its effectiveness, Rohtak’s Zero Period model has now been adopted across the entire state.
Each child’s academic progress is being monitored through a Digital Skill Passbook, enabling timely academic interventions and personalized guidance. To strengthen parental involvement, Mother–Teacher Circles have been constituted, fostering closer coordination between homes and schools.
Teacher Training & Academic Support Programmes
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed teacher training initiatives in coordination with DIET Madina, and assessed progress under key academic programmes:
• NEEV Programme: Enhancing science competency among Classes IX and X through digital homework and subject-based video support.
• STEAM Programme: Promoting integrated learning in Science, Mathematics and Arts for Classes VI to VIII.
• SPARK Programme: Encouraging activity-based and experiential learning in Classes IX to XII.
He directed that structured teacher training plans be further strengthened to support classroom-level transformation.
Academic Enrichment & Talent Development
Reviewing competitive exam initiatives, the Deputy Commissioner instructed that classes under the Super-40 Programme—modeled on Super-100—be started within one month. The programme aims to provide free coaching for IIT-JEE and NEET aspirants, along with study material, testing and mentoring.
Skill Education & Vocational Training
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed NSQF-based skill education and vocational training being implemented by the DPC, Samagra Shiksha. He appreciated the efforts to integrate education with employability and directed that student-developed innovative products, such as utility items and clay-based water purifiers, be actively promoted to showcase students’ creativity and skills.
Infrastructure & Learning Environment
To ensure a supportive learning environment, repair and refurbishment of dual desks is being carried out in coordination with ITIs at the block level, ensuring efficient use of local technical expertise and uninterrupted classroom functioning.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the collective efforts of education officers, school heads, teachers, DIET faculty, and field functionaries, noting that the department has successfully met the targets set in the previous review. He reiterated that Rohtak is firmly on track to becoming a fully NIPUN district by March 2026, setting a benchmark for holistic, inclusive and outcome-oriented education.
