Rohtak, November 23, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that ensuring improved facilities for young children, pregnant women and lactating mothers at Anganwadi centres is one of the foremost priorities of the district administration. In this direction, a comprehensive initiative has been launched to transform all Anganwadi centres in Rohtak district into Saksham (Model) Anganwadi Centres.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that several Anganwadi centres across the district were functioning in inadequate infrastructural conditions. To address this, the administration identified such centres and undertook targeted improvement works. As part of the first phase, 50 Anganwadi centres have already been upgraded into Saksham centres with strengthened infrastructure, improved service delivery and enhanced learning spaces. All expenditure incurred on renovation and upgradation has been borne by the district administration.
To ensure continuous monitoring, coordination and timely execution of this initiative, ADC Narender Kumar has been designated as the nodal officer. He is regularly visiting Anganwadi centres, reviewing infrastructure, engaging with frontline workers and issuing necessary directions for further improvements. His on-ground assessments are helping streamline the transformation process and enhance service quality.
DC Sachin Gupta stated that the upgraded centres now offer clean, colourful and aesthetically designed interiors, dedicated learning corners, and wall paintings to generate curiosity and interest among children. The objective is to create a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere so that children come to the centres willingly and regularly. Renovation works have also focused on safety, ventilation, sanitation facilities and basic amenities for women and children.
He further added that the district administration is now preparing a detailed proposal to transform all remaining Anganwadi centres in a phased and systematic manner, ensuring uniform quality standards across Rohtak. After the completion of phase-II, the entire district is expected to have fully modernised, child-friendly Anganwadis.
Highlighting the significance of Anganwadi centres, he said they deliver several essential services under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework—supplementary nutrition, health check-ups, immunization, nutrition counselling, early childhood care and pre-school education. These centres play a critical role in addressing malnutrition, supporting maternal health and promoting early learning outcomes. Anganwadi services cater to children below six years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers across rural and urban areas.
The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned that at the centre, children aged 3 to 6 years receive pre-school education through play-based learning, storytelling and activity-based methods. Many centres function like ‘mini schools’, where children are provided uniforms, learning kits, books and other educational materials. Regular growth monitoring, counseling sessions for mothers and health-awareness activities are also conducted.
He reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to strengthening foundational nutrition, healthcare and early education systems, ensuring that every Anganwadi in Rohtak reflects dignity, safety, inclusiveness and opportunity for every child and mother.
