Red Cross to Prepare 5,000 Volunteers; DC Sachin Gupta directs Formation of Civil Defence Team and Expansion of Blood Donation Drives
Rohtak, February 18, 2026: Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, District Red Cross Society Rohtak, Sachin Gupta, directed that 5,000 volunteers be prepared from schools and colleges across the district to strengthen community service, emergency response, and humanitarian assistance. He further directed the formation of a Civil Defence team in the district and expansion of blood donation camps in collaboration with NGOs, so that no needy person is deprived of blood.
The Deputy Commissioner was chairing a review meeting of Red Cross activities at the local camp office. He directed that students from schools and colleges be imparted basic first aid training through the Red Cross. With the support of the Women and Child Development Department, youth from slum and vulnerable areas should be identified and trained in home nursing, enabling skill development along with community service.
Emphasising disaster preparedness, the Deputy Commissioner directed that a dedicated Civil Defence team be constituted in the district so that trained manpower is readily available during emergencies. In this regard, instructions were issued to Civil Defence India, and efforts will be made to link a large number of citizens with the Civil Defence programme and provide them structured training. The objective is to prepare citizens to effectively respond to natural disasters, accidents, and other emergency situations.
Highlighting the achievements of the Red Cross, the Deputy Commissioner informed that 311 blood donation camps have been organised from April till last month, resulting in the collection of over 18,000 units of blood, along with the organisation of 420 health camps across the district. He directed that the number of blood donation camps be further increased in coordination with NGOs and voluntary organisations. He also instructed that regular health check-ups for senior citizens, including BP and sugar tests, be conducted in parks and public places.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed proper maintenance and inventory of Red Cross assets, including buildings and land, and reviewed the income and expenditure of the society. Instructions were also issued for the maintenance of the building of the leprosy ashram being run by the Red Cross.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Red Cross Society Vikas, Chief Warden Civil Defence Gurugram Mohit Sharma, District Training In-charge Ravi Dutt, Accountant Ashish Khassa, and other officers and staff of the Red Cross Society.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to humanitarian service, community preparedness, and inclusive welfare, the Deputy Commissioner stated that strengthening volunteerism and emergency readiness is essential for building a resilient and compassionate society.
