Ludhiana, February 21, 2026: The P.G. Department of Punjabi, Ramgarhia Girls College, celebrated International Maat Bhasha Divas as Punjabi Maat Bhasha Diwas with great enthusiasm and academic fervour.
On this occasion, a special lecture on the theme “The Role of Mother Tongue in Personality Development” was organized.
Brijinderpal Singh, Lucknow (Chief Organizer), graced the programme as the Chief Guest, while Jaspal Singh (Zonal Secretary), Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Ludhiana, attended the event as the Guest of Honour.
The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Dr. Ajit Kaur, and the Head of the P.G. Department of Punjabi, Dr. Harbinder Kaur.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Brijinderpal Singh highlighted the historical journey and cultural richness of Punjabi, emphasizing that the mother tongue plays a vital role in shaping intellectual growth and personality development. He remarked that any society or nation progresses only when it remains firmly rooted in its mother language.
Guest of Honour Jaspal Singh shared spiritual insights with the students and stressed the importance of moral values in personal development. He encouraged students to follow a disciplined and ethical way of life, stating that spiritual awareness through one’s mother tongue strengthens character and inner resolve.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Ajit Kaur stated that education is the foundation of national progress and must begin in the mother tongue. She appreciated the sweetness, simplicity, and clarity of the Punjabi language and emphasized that true all-round development of a community is possible only under the influence of its native language.
Dr. Harbinder Kaur expressed concern over the growing detachment of youth from their mother tongue due to globalization. She emphasized the urgent need to preserve, promote, and cherish Punjabi so that its rich linguistic and cultural heritage continues to flourish.
As part of the celebrations, a Poster Making Competition was organized under the guidance of Prof. Tarvinder Kaur. Students from various classes creatively expressed their love and concern for the Punjabi language through visually appealing posters. The students also presented poems highlighting the beauty and significance of Punjabi. The winners of the competitions were awarded prizes.
The programme concluded with the presentation of mementos to the guests and a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Harbinder Kaur.
