Ludhiana, December 29, 2018: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal leaders Sunil Mehra (general secretary), Mohinder Aggarwal (secretary), Arvinder Makkar (district president) and Harkesh Mittal have stated that trade and industry is passing through a critical juncture in Punjab.
Addressing the media persons here, they added interests of trade and industry were being crushed by wrong policies of the state government and attitude of bureaucrats towards the trading community. They regretted that the state government was following the policies that were not in favour of the trading community.
The PPBM leaders said the Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal had made several promises to members of Beopar Mandal in the last 18 months rule of the Congress-led government in the state. However, no promise had been fulfilled so far, they regretted, and said, resulting to which the present state government was proving a total failure in providing relief to traders.
Adding, they said about 22,000 industrial units had migrated to other states during rule of the predecessor state government and that had happened due to wrong policies of the predecessor state government. Besides, around 65,000 traders had surrendered their sales tax numbers. They recalled Capt Amarinder Singh Government of its promises made immediately after taking over that power tariff would be fixed at Rs.5 per unit, trade and industry boards would be constituted and VAT cases from 2011 to 2017 would be taken back and so on within next 100 days of formation of the state government. However, these promises were still unfulfilled, they regretted. They also expressed concern that the GST Council had put traders into great troubles by making more than 1,000 revisions. Traders were in great confusion, they pointed out.
