Punjab Heart Surgeon recognised for his immense contributions to cardio vascular surgery

At a glittering function in New Delhi on 12 Oct 2025 Dr Harinder Singh Bedi – Director Cardio Vascular Sciences at the Park Hospital Mohali - was recognized and  awarded for his immense contribution to Cardio Vascular Sciences by Ravinder Singh, Minister of Social Welfare, Cooperation and Elections New Delhi.
With CVD’s accounting for over 28% of total deaths in India, the economic, infrastructural, and institutional implications are impossible to ignore. What is disturbing is that  50% of heart attacks in Indian men occur before age 50, and 25% before age 40,  heart attacks strike Indians 10 years earlier than in Western populations and  India bears 60% of the global heart disease burden. Any contribution to strike at this is laudable.
The oraganisers - BEAT 2025 Voice of Healthcare group – screened 500 eligible candidates and narrowed down the field to Dr HS Bedi for having been a pioneer in starting beating heart surgery – a game changer operation which has remarkably reduced the risk of heart surgery along with a major reduction in cost and made complex heart surgery available at the doorsteps of the common man.
The judges chose Dr Bedi not only for his contribution to beating heart surgery but also Vascular and Thoracic surgery and his innovations which have found a name three times in the Limca Book of World Records. He is also the one who was the first to start the Cardio Vascular Surgical programme of the giant Fortis group in 2001.
The other dignitaries at the event were Dr Naresh Trehan, Dr Ashok Seth and Dr TS Kler.
