Chandigarh, January 20, 2026: Panjab University (PU) organised one-day national workshop to mark National Voters’ Day at the University Institute of Science, Social Sciences and Research (PU-ISSER).
Eminent speakers delivered informative lectures highlighting the significance of National Voters’ Day, the role of the Election Commission of India, and the responsibilities of citizens in a democratic system.
Prof. Anju Suri, Coordinator, PU-ISSER, welcomed the guests and elaborated on the theme of the programme through her opening address.
The keynote sessions were delivered by Dr. Suraj Thapa, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Post Graduate Government College-11, Chandigarh, and Mohit Verma, Assistant Professor, Department of Police and Public Administration, Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, and State-Level Master Trainer.
Dr. Suraj Thapa spoke on Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), electoral literacy, civic responsibility, and various social initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic participation. Mr. Mohit Verma focused on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and its role in ensuring an inclusive and updated electoral roll. The sessions enabled students to develop a deeper understanding of informed and ethical voting.
The academic session was presided over by Prof. Emanuel Nahar, formerly Professor, Department of Political Science, Centre for Distance and Online Education, Panjab University.
The second segment had poster and slogan making competitions centred on voter awareness and the importance of voting for PU-ISSER students.
Prizes were awarded to the first three position holders in both categories.
The workshop proceedings were efficiently guided by Prof. Anju Suri, while the programme was organised under the direction of Dr. Shyama, Assistant Professor, Political Science, PU-ISSER (Guest Faculty), and Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, Public Administration, PU-ISSER (Guest Faculty).
