PU Faculty-Led Deep-Tech Startup Secures DPIIT Recognition
Advanced Functional Material Technologies Private Limited (AFMTech), a faculty-led deep-tech startup incubated at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has achieved a significant milestone today by officially handing over its Certificate of Incorporation and Share Certificate to the Registrar, Panjab University, during a formal ceremony held on PU Foundation Day.

Chandigarh, October 14, 2025: Advanced Functional Material Technologies Private Limited (AFMTech), a faculty-led deep-tech startup incubated at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, has achieved a significant milestone today by officially handing over its Certificate of Incorporation and Share Certificate to the Registrar, Panjab University, during a formal ceremony held on PU Foundation Day.
The company has also received Startup India recognition (DPIIT Certificate No. DIPP222957) from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India.
Established in August 2025 under the Faculty-Led Startup Policy of Panjab University (CIIPP), AFMTech aims to develop indigenous capabilities in advanced functional materials and thin-film technologies. The company focuses on strategic applications in semiconductors, spintronics, quantum devices and energy systems. By integrating sustainable material engineering with AI-driven innovation, AFMTech contributes to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and supports Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat through deep-tech manufacturing and research translation.
PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma said that the launch of AFMTech marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the University’s innovation ecosystem. “This faculty-led enterprise demonstrates how academic research can transform into high-impact, industry-ready solutions and strengthen India’s deep-tech manufacturing resilience. We are committed to supporting such startups that align with the nation’s strategic technological roadmap,” the Registrar stated.
Dr Sanjeev Gautam, Faculty Promoter and Technical Director of AFMTech, said that the company was founded with the conviction that India must build sovereign capabilities in advanced functional materials to support semiconductor manufacturing, quantum technologies and strategic electronics. “Our work integrates scientific rigour with practical engineering to develop indigenous alternatives to critical imported technologies. With the support of PU and recognition from Startup India, we are ready to scale R&D, manufacturing and global partnerships,” he added.
