PU Education Dept holds lecture on ethical, inclusive STEM ecosystems
The Panjab University, Department of Education, Chandigarh, today organised a lecture on building ethical and equitable STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) ecosystems.
Chandigarh, January 14, 2026: The Panjab University, Department of Education, Chandigarh, today organised a lecture on building ethical and equitable STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) ecosystems.
The event featured Dr. Vanashri Nargund-Joshi, Associate Professor at New Jersey City University, USA, and Dr. Rekha Kaul, Professor of Science Education, Discipline Lead in STEM and Deputy Head, School of Education, Curtin University, Australia.
Dr. Nargund-Joshi shared key insights from the Liberty STEM Alliance, underscoring the need to develop inclusive STEM ecosystems grounded in ethics and equity. She highlighted that STEM ecosystems function as collaborative networks of schools, universities, non-profit organisations, industry partners and communities working together to create sustainable STEM pathways.
Dr. Rekha Kaul, also addressed the gathering, emphasised the significance of collaboration and partnerships in strengthening STEM education initiatives. Dr. Nargund-Joshi further noted that such ecosystems enable shared resources, redistribution of power and transparency.
Highlighting best practices, Dr. Nargund-Joshi presented two successful partnership models—the Greater Newark STEM Alliance and the Family Success Centers. The Greater Newark STEM Alliance organises New Jersey STEM Month each March.
She also discussed innovative workshops such as “Food and Genes Super Snacks,” as these initiatives have been implemented through 15 programmes over five years, engaging high school students, elementary learners and families.
Dr. Nargund-Joshi noted that the Liberty STEM Alliance has strengthened cross-sector networks, enhanced student participation and leadership, and expanded access to STEM learning for underserved communities. She also acknowledged ongoing challenges.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session with Dr. Nargund-Joshi and Dr. Rekha Kaul.
