Chandigarh, August 12, 2025: Panjab University (PU) has initiated preparations for the forthcoming Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) elections with a strong emphasis on peaceful, fair, and rule-bound campaigning. The university administration, in coordination with Chandigarh Police, has issued strict instructions to all students’ organizations to ensure compliance with Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and campus safety regulations.
Key directions include a complete ban on political leaders’ visits during the election period, prohibition on carrying arms or lethal weapons (including licensed ones), restriction on stickers and posters on vehicles or clothing, and a ban on outsider participation in campaigning. All rallies, processions, and gatherings of more than five people will require prior permission from the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) office. Defacement of university property and littering of pamphlets will invite strict penalties, including cancellation of nominations.
Security measures will include thorough checking at all campus and hostel gates, denial of hostel stay to non-residents, and immediate reporting of unauthorised persons or abandoned vehicles to police. Outsider presence will be curtailed, and only bonafide PU students will be allowed to participate in the election process. Parking of more than two vehicles of the same student organisation in one place and group visits to girls’ hostels for canvassing are strictly prohibited.
These decisions were taken during a meeting held on Monday at the PU Student Centre, which was attended by Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Prof. Amit Chauhan, DSW (W) Prof. Namita Gupta, Associate DSW Prof. Naresh Kumar, SSP Chandigarh Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur (IPS), and representatives of various students’ organisations.
