Rishabh Mishra, a 2025 graduate of the Dr SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET), Panjab University, has secured the prestigious Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree at The University of Tokyo, Japan. The fully funded scholarship covers tuition, visa fees, living expenses and airfare, making it one of the world’s most competitive awards for outstanding students.

Chandigarh, September 23, 2025: Rishabh Mishra, a 2025 graduate of the Dr SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET), Panjab University, has secured the prestigious Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree at The University of Tokyo, Japan. The fully funded scholarship covers tuition, visa fees, living expenses and airfare, making it one of the world’s most competitive awards for outstanding students.

Rishabh was selected under the University Recommended Category for his exceptional academic record, research potential and contributions to green energy. At The University of Tokyo, ranked 28th globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 and #1 in Japan, he will join the Graduate School of Chemical System Engineering to research efficient catalysts for new energy conversion systems aimed at sustainable development.

The MEXT selection process involves a rigorous multi-stage evaluation, including online application, GRE performance, written examination and interviews with university professors, followed by screenings at both the university and Japanese Government levels.

During his undergraduate studies at UICET, Rishabh ranked among the top five per cent of his batch and represented Panjab University in an international cultural exchange programme at Yokohama National University, Japan, where he presented innovative solutions for water sustainability in agriculture.

Expressing his gratitude, Rishabh said, “Being selected for the MEXT Scholarship to study at The University of Tokyo is a dream come true. I owe this success to the constant motivation of Professor Sushil Kumar Kansal, the invaluable guidance of Professor Anupama Sharma—especially through the Japan exchange programme—and the strong foundation provided by my Department of Chemical Engineering. Above all, the unwavering encouragement of my grandfather has been a source of inspiration throughout my journey.” He added that he looks forward to contributing to the global transition towards clean and sustainable energy while bringing pride to his department and Panjab University.
