The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) today inaugurated the new building of its Hyderabad Chapter at Anandnagar Colony, Khairatabad, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the Institute’s professional and educational presence in Telangana.
Hyderabad, August 23, 2026: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) today inaugurated the new building of its Hyderabad Chapter at Anandnagar Colony, Khairatabad, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the Institute’s professional and educational presence in Telangana.
The approximately 10,200-sq-ft, five-storey building comprising four floors and a stilt floor, developed at a project outlay of approximately ₹10 crore, provides enhanced infrastructure for professional education, training, examinations, meetings, capacity-building programmes and other activities of the ICSI Hyderabad Chapter.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, CS Pawan G Chandak, National President, ICSI, said the new facility would provide a stronger platform for the growing community of Company Secretaries and students in Hyderabad and Telangana and enable the Hyderabad Chapter to undertake a wider range of professional, educational and stakeholder-engagement initiatives.
Highlighting the growing reach of the profession, Chandak said the ICSI currently has around 80,600 members and 2.5 lakh students across India, while the Hyderabad Chapter has approximately 2,300 members and 3,000 students.
He said the ICSI has 77 chapters across India, of which 15 are in South India. Of these 15 chapters, 13 have their own land and buildings, reflecting the Institute’s continuing investment in creating permanent professional infrastructure.
The ICSI is also planning to expand its international presence, with a European Union Centre likely to be established in the Netherlands, Mr. Chandak said.
Describing Company Secretaries as Corporate Governance Professionals, Chandak said India has emerged as a global leader in this field.
“While there are around 1.3 lakh Corporate Governance Professionals globally, India alone has 80,600 Company Secretaries. This places India in a leading position in the world in terms of the number of professionals engaged in corporate governance,” he said.
He said the expanding regulatory and governance requirements of businesses were creating significant opportunities for qualified Company Secretaries.
Chandak also highlighted the potential demand for Company Secretaries arising from the increasing formalisation and listing of MSMEs.
“Currently, only around 7% of Indian MSMEs have gone public or are listed. If this increases to even 35%, India could require more than one lakh Company Secretaries to meet the growing requirements of governance, compliance and regulatory oversight,” he said.
He described Company Secretarial practice as a profession offering significant employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young professionals, adding that the expanding corporate governance and compliance landscape would create opportunities for a brighter career.
The new Hyderabad Chapter building comes at a time when the ICSI is expanding its role beyond traditional Company Secretarial education and compliance to address emerging areas including corporate governance, sustainability, capital markets, dispute resolution, MSMEs, social auditing and international business.
The ICSI has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at equipping Company Secretaries with skills relevant to the evolving business and regulatory environment.
Among these are IFSC-specific courses on fund management and capital market intermediaries; the Capacity Building Series for members and students; and the ICSI Certificate Course on Professional Reboot, designed to help women Company Secretaries return to professional roles after career breaks.
The Institute has also introduced specialised programmes including a two-year full-time MBA in Maritime Regulations and Compliance Management in association with Gujarat Maritime University; a Certificate Course on Corporate and Securities Markets Compliances in association with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM); the ICSI Certificate Course on UAE Business Manager; and a certificate course on Online Dispute Resolution, Digital Arbitration and Mediation.

The ICSI is strengthening its contribution to the corporate governance ecosystem through initiatives such as the ICSI Guiding Principles on Stewardship (IGPS), ICSI Principles on Climate Change Governance (IPCG) and the Stakeholder Engagement Toolkit on ESG.
The Institute has also developed a Governance and Compliance Standard on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) at Workplace, providing guidance on Internal Committee procedures, complaint and inquiry processes, training and capacity building, and gender-neutral workplace policies.
Other initiatives include the ICSI International ADR Centre, ICSI Start-up and MSME Catalyst, ICSI Institute of Social Auditors, ICSI Social Audit Standards and the Registered Valuer’s Toolkit.

The ICSI is also associated with the International Commerce Olympiad and ICSI Commerce Olympiad, aimed at encouraging commerce education among school students.
The Institute has undertaken several initiatives to make professional education more accessible.
These include fee waivers for members of the armed forces, Agniveers, families of martyrs and wards of armed and paramilitary forces personnel, as well as students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Fee concessions are also available for students belonging to SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities categories, as well as students from specified regions. The ICSI also facilitates education loan support for students.
Through its outreach programme with NABARD, the ICSI is creating awareness among NGOs about registration and listing on India’s Social Stock Exchange.
Its SEBI SME Awareness Drive is aimed at helping business owners understand the complete IPO journey, while the Corporate Mitra Scheme, in partnership with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, seeks to create a pool of trained and certified paraprofessionals who can support MSMEs in regulatory compliance, GST, accounting, financial guidance, cost accounting and secretarial services.
The ICSI has also become the first professional body to register and onboard as a Professional Institution (Anchor Entity) under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS).
Through this initiative, registered Company Secretary firms can provide internship opportunities to young people.
