Prof Raj Nehru stresses leadership, innovation in higher education
Strategic thinking, innovation and transparent decision-making are essential for effective leadership and institutional excellence in higher education, said Prof Raj Nehru, OSD to the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Director General of the Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management, at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU).
Rohtak, October 10, 2026: Strategic thinking, innovation and transparent decision-making are essential for effective leadership and institutional excellence in higher education, said Prof Raj Nehru, OSD to the Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Director General of the Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management, at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU).
Addressing a week-long UGC Faculty Development Programme on ‘Leadership Competencies for Academicians: Enhancing Excellence in Higher Education’, organised by the university’s Faculty Development Centre under MM-TTC, on its sixth day, Prof Nehru stressed the need for educators to go beyond administrative responsibilities and foster a culture of academic excellence.
He highlighted effective communication, integrity, innovation and collaborative decision-making as key leadership qualities. He also emphasised creating student-centric learning environments, mentoring faculty members and aligning institutional goals with academic vision.
MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Milap Poonia said leadership skills, innovation and a positive outlook were vital for improving educational quality and institutional growth.
Registrar Prof Sandeep Bansal said such programmes helped faculty members acquire modern leadership skills and promote excellence in higher education.
FDC Director Prof Munish Garg, Deputy Director Dr Madhuri Hooda and participating faculty members were also present.
