PGIMS seminar flags rising mental health concerns among children
Rising stress, depression and digital fatigue among children and adolescents came into focus at a state-level seminar organised by the Department of Community Medicine at PGIMS, Rohtak, to mark World Mental Health Day.
Rohtak, October 10, 2026: Rising stress, depression and digital fatigue among children and adolescents came into focus at a state-level seminar organised by the Department of Community Medicine at PGIMS, Rohtak, to mark World Mental Health Day.
The hybrid seminar, coordinated by Prof Ramesh Verma, saw participation from around 70 people, including faculty members, senior school teachers, health workers and postgraduate residents. Dr Sujata Sethi, head of the Department of Psychiatry and director-cum-CEO of the Institute of Mental Health stressed the need to integrate mental health care into primary health services.
Psychiatry experts Dr Hitesh Khurana and Dr Preeti highlighted the need to eliminate social stigma surrounding mental illness and ensure access to psychological support at the primary level. They also discussed early signs of stress, depression and digital fatigue among children and adolescents, emphasising timely identification and preventive intervention.
A poster-making competition was organised to promote mental health awareness among students. UG student Chirag secured first position, while Durgesh finished second.
Faculty members and resident doctors from the community medicine departments of BPSGMC Khanpur, SHKM Mewat, ESIC Faridabad and MAMC Agroha joined the seminar online, enabling participation from medical colleges across Haryana.
