Political Parties Gear Up Early for Punjab Assembly Elections 2027
All political parties in Punjab are preparing well in advance for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The recent visits of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal, Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi, and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal—including their series of public meetings—clearly indicate that all parties are aiming for victory in the upcoming elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Punjab, including a massive public rally at Moga, signals that the BJP is taking the 2027 Punjab elections very seriously. Speculation around possible alliances has created uncertainty among political leaders. During his visit, Shah highlighted multiple issues, promising that a BJP-led government would address demands across various sectors and the needs of the general populace. Notably, he refrained from speaking against SAD (Badal), focusing instead on Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is actively promoting investment opportunities to attract international players and industrialists to Punjab, aiming to generate employment. Popular schemes like 300 units of free electricity per household per month and free bus travel for women continue to appeal strongly to middle-class families and female voters.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has been addressing a series of public rallies across Punjab. In a recent rally at Sahnewal, Ludhiana, he highlighted the developmental achievements made during the tenure of the late Prakash Singh Badal, calling him a visionary leader. Importantly, Sukhbir Singh Badal did not target the BJP in his speeches.
The Congress Party is striving to regain power in Punjab. Senior leader Rahul Gandhi has instructed Punjab Congress leaders to work collectively, set aside internal differences, and focus on achieving positive results in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Questions remain regarding the political strategies of parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (A), as they are yet to reveal their plans for the upcoming elections. A multi-cornered contest is likely, and it remains uncertain which party will secure what percentage of votes. While every party is confident of victory, ultimately, the decision will lie with the voters.
