Rohtak, April 23, 2026: A walkathon was organized at the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS)—an institution under the Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences—as part of World Oral Health Month. Organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, the objective of this walkathon was to raise awareness among the general public regarding oral health and hygiene.
The walkathon was flagged off by the Institute's Principal, Dr. Manu Rathi. Faculty members, resident doctors, and BDS students participated enthusiastically in the event, carrying placards and banners. The entire institute campus resonated with slogans such as "Healthy Mouth, Healthy Life," "Brush Twice, Smile Always," and "Say No to Tobacco."
Principal Dr. Manu Rathi said that the mouth serves as a mirror of the human body; neglecting oral health is tantamount to inviting various serious ailments. She added that, as part of Oral Health Awareness Month, the institute's endeavor is to ensure that this vital message reaches every household.
She further mentioned that throughout this month, the institute is organizing various activities—including street plays, school health camps, free dental check-up camps, and public awareness lectures—to promote this cause.
Dr. Manjunath, HoD of Public Health Dentistry, noted that over 90% of the population in India suffers from some form of dental or gum-related ailment, primarily due to a lack of awareness. Through the walkathon, students endeavored to educate the public that conditions such as oral cancer, pyorrhea, and dental cavities can be prevented by taking appropriate precautions at the right time.
During the event, Principal Dr. Manu Rathi also administered an oral hygiene pledge to all the participants and the audience present.
