Jalandhar, June 16, 2026: Reaffirming its steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, has been honoured with a Special Recognition Award by PAHAL NGO during the observance of World Blood Donor Day at Red Cross Bhawan, Jalandhar.
The accolade was conferred in recognition of the institution’s noteworthy contribution to PAHAL’s E-Waste Recycling Initiative, underscoring the college’s sustained efforts towards fostering ecological responsibility and civic consciousness.
Renowned for its proactive engagement with environmental causes, PCM S.D. has consistently championed a diverse spectrum of sustainability-oriented endeavours. From extensive tree plantation campaigns and environmental sensitization programmes to systematic waste management practices and e-waste recycling initiatives, the institution has endeavoured to cultivate among its students a profound sense of environmental accountability and responsible citizenship.
A significant milestone in this endeavour has been the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PAHAL NGO, aimed at promoting the holistic development of youth through concerted interventions in the domains of Health, Education, Environment, and Communication. This collaborative partnership has facilitated the regular organization of a wide array of socially meaningful activities, including awareness lectures, cleanliness drives, blood donation advocacy programmes, anti-drug campaigns, e-waste collection drives, and practical demonstrations on scientific methods of e-waste segregation and recycling.
As part of this collaborative initiative, the Eco Club of the college, in collaboration with the PG Department of Computer Science and IT, undertook an extensive campaign to collect obsolete electronic devices and discarded electronic waste generated by students, faculty members, and members of the surrounding community. The accumulated e-waste was subsequently channelled through PAHAL NGO to authorized recycling agencies for scientific processing and environmentally responsible disposal, thereby contributing significantly to resource conservation and ecological preservation.
The award was received on behalf of the institution by Major Priya Mahajan, IQAC Coordinator, and Dolly, in the distinguished presence of representatives from various social organizations, environmental advocates, voluntary blood donors, and community leaders. The recognition stands as a testament to the collective dedication and concerted efforts of the college administration, faculty, students, and the Eco Club in advancing sustainable environmental practices.
Expressing her gratitude to PAHAL NGO for this honour, Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar remarked that educational institutions occupy a pivotal position in shaping environmentally conscious societies.
President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar welcomed this recognition as both an affirmation of its ongoing efforts and an impetus to further intensify its environmental initiatives.
