Ludhiana, October 13, 2025: Former President of the Ludhiana District Congress Committee (Urban) and senior Congress leader Pawan Dewan has expressed deep resentment over reports that the Punjab Government is planning to sell a large portion of the valuable land belonging to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana.
In a statement issued here, Dewan said that PAU has played a vital role in bringing the Green Revolution and in making the nation self-reliant in food grain production. He emphasized that agriculture is the heart of Punjab’s economy, and PAU is the brain that keeps this heart alive.
He further stated that for decades, PAU has been a hub of research and innovation, producing many eminent scientists who have contributed not only to Punjab but to the entire nation. It is because of PAU that Punjab earned the proud title of “Granary of India.”
Dewan pointed out that reports suggest the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab is planning to sell nearly 2000 acres of PAU’s precious land, which is a matter of grave concern.
He asserted that if these reports are true, it would be a serious blow not only to PAU but also to the entire agricultural system of Punjab. Weakening an institution like PAU means endangering the future of Punjab’s agriculture and farmers.
He urged the people of Punjab to stay aware and raise their voices against this move to protect the state’s agricultural legacy.
