PAU STUDENTS AND FACULTY ATTEND WORLD FOOD CONFERENCE

Ludhiana, November 7, 2017: As many as 22 students along with four teachers from the Departments of Food Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Processing and Food Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), attended the“World Food India 2017” Conference, organized by Ministry of Food Processing Industriesin New Delhifrom November3-5.The Directorate of Students’ Welfare, PAU, had organized the exposure visit. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi on November 3.Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing, Government of India, also graced the occasion. Dr Poonam A. Sachdev, Head, Food Science and Technology; Dr Anita Kochhar, Head, Foods and Nutrition, and three other scientists from different departments of PAU participated in the conference.

Faculty and students attended different interactive technical sessions of conference related to status, potential, trends and scenario of food processing in India and foreign countries like Japan and Italy, which emphasized on increasing area under organic production and consumption of food. They also witnessedlatest food processing and digital technologies of India showcased during the three-day mega event.Renowned speakers from different fields showed their interest and shared their ideas regarding various opportunities that could be explored by entrepreneurs. In addition, various entrepreneurs presented their business plans to broaden their enterprises. Mr Rana Gurjeet, Irrigation and Power Minister, Punjab, invited various investors to Punjab by highlighting various facilities that could be provided to them.
