PAU Organises Field Day On Pulses And Oilseeds

Ludhiana, March 29, 2016: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a field day on “Pulses and Oilseed Crops” in the village Sheikh Daulat. The programme was held in collaboration with Pulses Section and Oilseeds Section of PAU. Nearly 120 farmers participated in the field day, organized in the fields of the farmer, Harpal Singh. Earlier, the Department had conducted an exposure visit for the farmers of Boparai Kalan village of Ludhiana district to PAU Kisan Mela.

Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, Head, Department of Extension Education, advised the farmers to follow PAU recommendations regarding different crops and participate in the training courses, organized by PAU on different aspects of agriculture.

Dr Sarabjeet Singh and Dr K.S. Brar, Senior Breeders, advised the farmers to grow recommended varieties of pulses and oilseed crops.

Dr Guriqbal and Dr Sardana, Senior Agronomists, urged the farmers to use recommended weedicides and follow proper fertilizer and other management practices.

Dr Ravinderpal Singh, Entomologist, delivered a lecture on “Insect-pests affecting pulses and oilseed crops, their symptoms and control measures.”

Earlier, an extension specialist, Dr Vipan Kumar Rampal while welcoming the scientists and the farmers to the field day, highlighted the importance of pulses and oilseeds in daily diet as well as agriculture.

Another PAU expert, Dr Lavleesh Garg suggested the farmers to read PAU farm literature for technical guidance.
