Panjab University’s Guru Nanak Sikh Studies Department Hosts Two-Day Seminar on Geo-Politics, Identity Crisis, and Literature

Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University organised a two-day seminar entitled ‘Geo-Politics, Identity Crisis and Literature’ in collaboration with Sahit Akademi, Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, and Chandigarh Sahit Akademi. Director, Research and Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, was the chief guest.

Chandigarh, December 29, 2025: Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University organised a two-day seminar entitled ‘Geo-Politics, Identity Crisis and Literature’ in collaboration with Sahit Akademi, Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, and Chandigarh Sahit Akademi. Director, Research and Development Cell, Prof. Meenakshi Goyal, was the chief guest.

 

In the two sessions, many theme-oriented research papers were presented by Paramjeet Singh Dhingra, Kuldeep Singh, Parveen Kumar, Kumar Sushil, Vanita, Ravinder Kaur, Tajinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh Mann. Sessions were chaired by Kuldeep Singh and Renuka Singh, respectively. The main topics of discussion were Punjab problems, migration, language distinction and crisis, socio-political issues, and gender issues.

 

Prof. Gurpal Singh, academic in-charge of the host department, welcomed all the dignitaries and delegates. In his inaugural address, Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahit Akademi, said that the identity crisis is not a new thing; this is a much older problem of human civilization. He gave many reasons and examples of tussles in geopolitics. Prof. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, President, Haryana Sahitya Akademi, said that geopolitics is an intertwined concept of history and geography. Geography shapes history and ultimately geopolitics. Other speakers were Prof. Rawail Singh, Convener of Punjabi Board, Sahit Akademi; Prof. Bhupinder Brar of the Department of Political Science, PU; and Harish Puri. The vote of thanks was given by Manmohan Singh, President, Chandigarh Sahit Akademi.
