Panjab University Recalls 143 Years of Its Excellence and Contribution

Chandigarh, October 14, 2025: Panjab University today celebrated its rich heritage, excellence and contribution of 143 years of dedicated service to society. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig hoisted the University flag in the presence of teachers, staff members and NSS volunteers at the function organised by the PU National Service Scheme (NSS) at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat.

On this occasion, Prof Vig administered a pledge to all participants, reaffirming the University community’s commitment to academic excellence, integrity and social responsibility.

Extending her greetings on the occasion, Prof Renu Vig recalled that this University was established on 1 October 1947, in continuation of and as a successor to the University of the Punjab, which was founded on 14 October 1882 at Lahore. She said, “Today we are remembering our roots and celebrating its rich heritage and contribution of 143 years.”

Reflecting upon the illustrious journey of PU as one of the oldest centres of higher learning in India, Prof Vig remarked that Panjab University has stood as a beacon of knowledge, innovation and service to society. Referring to the University’s recent performance, she said that PU is consistently improving its position in all national and international rankings.

PU Registrar Prof Y P Verma, Director, Research and Development Cell Prof Meenakshi Goyal, Finance and Development Officer Dr Vikram Nayyar, Controller of Examinations Prof Jagat Bhushan, Secretary to Vice Chancellor Prof. Krishan Kumar, Dean Student Welfare Prof Amit Chauhan, Dean Student Welfare (W) Prof Namita Gupta, NSS Programme Coordinator and organiser of this event Dr Parveen Goyal, and several University officers, teachers, staff members, research scholars and students were present at the occasion.
