The Department of Economics, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of B.A. Economics (Honours) FYUGP 1st year and M.A. Economics 1st year. The event was inaugurated by Dean, Faculty of Arts PU, Dr. Krishna Mohan. The event commenced with a welcome address by Chairperson, Dr. Smita Sharma.

Chandigarh, August 26, 2026: The Department of Economics, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of B.A. Economics (Honours) FYUGP 1st year and M.A. Economics 1st year. The event was inaugurated by Dean, Faculty of Arts PU, Dr. Krishna Mohan. The event commenced with a welcome address by Chairperson, Dr. Smita Sharma.
Dr. Krishna Mohan welcomed the students and acquainted them with the upcoming transition in their lives, from being school/college students to becoming university students.
Further, Director, MMMTTC PU, Prof. Jayanti Dutta, introduced the students to PU and motivated them to make the most of it. In the next session, Chairperson, IETVE, Dr. Amritpal Kaur highlighted the importance of community engagement among Gen Z students. Warden, BH 3, Dr. Sucha Singh highlighted the opportunities in the hostel management system. The last session was delivered by NEP Co-Coordinator PU, Dr. Nitin Arora who provided a comprehensive overview of the structure and key provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and addressed the queries raised by the students.
An anti-ragging movie was screened to sensitise students and foster a safe campus environment. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Training and Placement Officer, Department of Economics, Ms. Gurpreet Kaur.
