Panjab University conducted a Refresher Course on 'Indian Knowledge System'
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh conducted a refresher course in contact mode at the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), PU from 2nd to 15th June, 2026, on the theme of ‘Indian Knowledge System’.
Chandigarh, June 15, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh conducted a refresher course in contact mode at the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), PU from 2nd to 15th June, 2026, on the theme of ‘Indian Knowledge System’.
More than 35 faculty members from 9 states and 20 disciplines attended the program, making it a multi-disciplinary course with emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
The course saw 16 Resource persons from prestigious institute including Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla; Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Kaviyatri Bahina Bai Chaudhary North Maharashtra University, CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Research, Punjab Technical University, and H.P. University shared their knowledge and expertise with the participants.
Discussions in the course pertained to Indian Philosophy, Praxis and Epistemological violence, Education at Nalanda, Ancient education system, Indian Art and Architecture, Pre-Independence scientists and their contribution, India’s contribution in Mathematics etc.
The training encouraged the participants to question, critique and challenge the prevalent frameworks in the light of Indian civilisational ethos. A visit to the Manuscript Library of DAV College, Chandigarh was organised.
During the Valedictory session, Prof. Jagdish Semwal, Former Professor of Sanskrit at Vishveshwaranand Vedic Shodh Sansthan, PU, Hoshiarpur, and recipient of Kalidas and Panini highlighted that the fundamentals of Indian Knowledge System are based on a vast body of literature written in Sanskrit for which PU has a dedicated an institute and Punjab is the land where the creation of Indian knowledge. He emphasised that PU should lead the teaching, research and training in the Indian Knowledge System.
