Panjab University today added a new academic facility for pharmacy students with the inauguration of a Drug Information Centre (DIC) at its University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, February 4, 2026: Panjab University today added a new academic facility for pharmacy students with the inauguration of a Drug Information Centre (DIC) at its University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Chandigarh.

The centre has been established to enhance teaching, training and practical learning for graduate, post graduate and research scholars at the UIPS. The centre will also support training of pharmacy students of Panjab University and nearby institutions through structured modules in evidence-based medicine.

UIPS is considered top ranked pharmacy institution in the country which has consistently ranked in top three in various NIRF rankings.

The Centre will provide access to authentic and evidence-based drug information and support skill development in rational and safe use of medicines. The centre will offer hands-on exposure to prepare students for professional responsibilities related to drug information services.

 The Drug Information Centre was formally inaugurated by PU Vice Chancellor Professor Renu Vig. The ceremony was attended by Mr Barinder Singh, Founder and Director, Pharmacoevidence Private Limited, Mohali, Prof Anil Kumar, Chairperson, UIPS, along with faculty members, students and invited guests.
 
The facility has been set up with financial support from Pharmacoevidence Private Limited, Mohali. Mr Barinder Singh, an alumnus of UIPS, expressed satisfaction over the initiative and assured continued support for the academic development of the institute.
 
Addressing the gathering, Professor Renu Vig said such facilities play a key role in strengthening professional training and ensuring patient safety. She congratulated UIPS on the initiative and emphasised the need for greater alumni participation in academic and skill development activities to make students more employable.

 UIPS Chairperson Prof Anil Kumar said the Drug Information Centre would function as a knowledge and resource hub for drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, therapeutic guidelines and updates on new drugs. He added that the centre would help to integrate academic research, training and skill development for pharmacy students.
