Chandigarh, March 19, 2026: A sensitisation session on organ donation, emphasising the theme “Ang Daan Ek Mahaan Daan Hai,” was conducted today by the Centre for Public Health, Panjab University, in collaboration with Social Substance.
The session aimed to raise awareness regarding the critical importance of organ donation as a life-saving public health intervention. It highlighted the growing burden of end-stage organ failure and the persistent gap between organ demand and availability, particularly in India. The programme underscored the need for increased public awareness, strengthened healthcare systems, and proactive community participation to address this issue.
The keynote speaker, Preeti Gupta from the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an insightful session focusing on the significance of organ donation and innovative approaches to awareness generation through art therapy. She emphasised the role of creative expression in addressing emotional and psychological barriers associated with organ donation, thereby fostering a more accepting and informed society. She also highlighted several common myths and misconceptions that often deter individuals from becoming organ donors, stressing the need to replace fear with factual information.
The session was conducted under the guidance of Dr Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, and Dr Arun Bansal. Faculty members Col (Dr) Bhumesh Singh Dadhwal, Dr Paravreet Kaur, and Ms Poonam Sharma, along with students and public health professionals, actively participated in the session, reflecting strong engagement and interest in this important health issue.
