The Department of French and Francophone Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Russian, Panjab University, marked the European Day of Languages with a one-day event on the theme “Bridging Cultures: Celebrating Multilingualism”.

Chandigarh, September 29, 2025: The Department of French and Francophone Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Russian, Panjab University, marked the European Day of Languages with a one-day event on the theme “Bridging Cultures: Celebrating Multilingualism”.
The celebration was inaugurated in the presence of Ms. Ekaterina Dynayk, Head of the Institute of Russian Language, Russian House, New Delhi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, Ms. Dynayk presented an insightful analysis of Russia and Russian society and traced the historical ties between India and Russia, dating back to the Middle Ages.
Highlighting the idea that languages serve as bridges across cultures, students from both departments, along with participants from Amity University, Mohali, showcased a vibrant cultural programme. Poetry recitations in French, Russian, Punjabi and Hindi brought the theme of multilingualism alive on stage.
The event was attended by distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Yog Raj Angrish (Academic In-charge, French), Prof. Gurmeet Singh (Academic In-charge, Russian), Dr. Kiran Bandra, Dr. Alok Pathak, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Dr. Navnit Kaur, Dr. Madhop Singh and Bhawani Singh. Their presence added academic gravitas to the celebration. The programme concluded on a note of cultural harmony and intellectual exchange, reinforcing the role of languages in fostering global understanding.
