Ludhiana, April 28, 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora has emphasized the crucial role of newspapers in providing constructive and informative content to readers. Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of a local media house, Arora expressed concern that negative news often receives more prominence than positive developments, which, he noted, contributes to the spread of negativity in society.
He pointed out that reports highlighting development or positive initiatives are frequently relegated to inside pages, while negative or crime-related stories dominate the front pages of many newspapers. "Journalism should be practiced in a positive spirit," he said, stressing that the media has the power to build a healthier and more progressive society.
Arora further observed that minor issues are sometimes exaggerated by the media, which leads to an unnecessary climate of pessimism. "Positive news has the potential to inspire people and encourage them to contribute towards the welfare of society," he remarked.
Emphasizing the need for responsible journalism, Arora stated that journalism should be pursued as a mission, not merely as a commercial enterprise. He urged media houses to prioritize quality over quantity, noting that credibility and journalistic standards should take precedence over the number of copies sold or circulated.
Arora also highlighted the importance of promoting health awareness through daily newspapers. He said that regular coverage of topics such as preventive healthcare, mental health, nutrition, fitness, and public health initiatives can greatly benefit readers and contribute to building a healthier nation. He emphasized that health-related news should not be limited to occasional reports but should be a consistent part of daily journalism. "Spreading accurate and positive health information can empower people to make better lifestyle choices and reduce the burden of diseases," he added, urging media houses to dedicate more space to health awareness campaigns.
During his address, Arora paid tribute to freedom fighter Narender Nath Khanna from Jalandhar, who sacrificed his life on March 9, 1947. He underscored that the contributions of freedom fighters to India’s independence struggle must always be honored and remembered.
On the occasion, MP Arora felicitated several distinguished personalities, including Ruchi Kaur Bawa, Ravinder Syan, and Darshan Lal Laddu.
Other prominent attendees included Gautam Jalandhari, Balraj Khanna, and Advocate Rajesh Mehra.
