Jalandhar: The NCC Unit of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board, organized a compelling Nukkad Natak (street play) at Jalandhar Railway Station to mark World Environment Day.

Aligned with this year’s theme—“Ending Plastic Pollution Globally”—the initiative aimed to create widespread awareness about the environmental hazards posed by plastic waste.

This impactful campaign was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Pooja Prashar, Principal of the college, and Colonel Maninder Singh Sachdev, Commanding Officer, 2 Punjab Girls Battalion, NCC.

Through an energetic and thought-provoking performance, the NCC cadets sensitized the public to the alarming consequences of plastic pollution and emphasized the power of individual responsibility and collective action in addressing this global challenge.

The performance urged citizens to adopt environmentally conscious habits and showcased how small, mindful actions—like reducing single-use plastic—can contribute to a healthier planet. The event attracted considerable public attention and sparked meaningful engagement on sustainable living. The cadets also conducted a rally carrying placards.

Dr. Pooja Prashar expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the commendable efforts of Er. Sandeep Kumar, Er. Manpreet Singh Jaura, Er. Manvinder Singh Hundal, and Er. Manraj Singh Randhawa from the Punjab Pollution Control Board, who have been at the forefront of awareness drives across the city. Their unwavering commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices in public spaces and educational institutions was lauded.

President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal acknowledged the sincere efforts of Captain Priya Mahajan (In-charge, NCC Unit) for successfully coordinating the event. Faculty members Jaswinder and Priyanka played key roles in ensuring the smooth execution of the campaign.

This initiative reaffirmed the college’s ongoing dedication to fostering environmental stewardship and encouraging civic responsibility among students and the wider community.
