NSS Panjab University Organises Plantation Drive Under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” on Eid Eve at Dhanas Village

The National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, today conducted a Plantation Drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in Dhanas, an adopted village of PU, on the eve of Eid. The initiative was organised as part of the Environment Education Programme supported by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

Chandigarh, June 7, 2025: The National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, today conducted a Plantation Drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” in Dhanas, an adopted village of PU, on the eve of Eid. The initiative was organised as part of the Environment Education Programme supported by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
 
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens and children of the village, who planted saplings to mark the occasion. Volunteers of NSS PU also distributed lassi packets to help residents beat the summer heat. A collective Mission LiFE pledge—promoting sustainable lifestyle practices—was taken by villagers and volunteers alike.
 
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Parveen Goyal, Programme Coordinator, NSS, and Dr. Sonia Sharma, Programme Officer, NSS Panjab University.
 
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Parveen Goyal highlighted the critical importance of plantation and conservation in the fight against climate change and global warming.
 
Participants appreciated the efforts of NSS PU, acknowledging that such initiatives are timely and essential. The presence and blessings of the senior citizens added warmth to the event, as they praised the youth for their commitment to environmental causes.
