NSS Camps at UHF Nauni Promote Community Service and Social Responsibility
Two seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) camps were successfully organized for 196 volunteers of the College of Forestry and the College of Horticulture, Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni.

The NSS camp for students of the College of Forestry was conducted in Nauni Panchayat, while students of the College of Horticulture carried out their activities in Shamrod Panchayat. The primary objective of the camps was to promote community service, cleanliness, social responsibility and overall personality development among students.
During the camps, volunteers actively participated in various activities, including cleanliness drives, trekking and nature walks, anti-drug awareness campaigns, voluntary labour and interactions with local residents. Educational and motivational sessions were also organized to sensitize students to social issues and the importance of nation-building.
The camps were organized under the guidance of the Dean Student Welfare Dr HP Sankhyan and coordinated by the NSS Programme Officers—Dr Anita Kumari, Dr Chandresh Guleria, Dr Pratima Vaidya and Dr Nitin Sharma from the College of Forestry, and Dr Meenu Gupta, Dr Neelam Kumari and Er. Atul Dhiman from the College of Horticulture.
Ajay Kumar Yadav, Managing Director, Himachal Pradesh Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Corporation, was the Chief Guest at the valedictory session. Addressing the volunteers, he appreciated their dedication and enthusiastic participation in community service activities and emphasized the crucial role of youth in rural development and social transformation. He encouraged students to carry forward the spirit of service and discipline imbibed during the NSS camps in their daily lives, noting that such initiatives help in shaping well-rounded personalities.
Dr Hari Paul Sankhyan, lauded the efforts of the NSS volunteers and Programme Officers for the successful organization of the camps and highlighted the role of NSS in nurturing socially responsible citizens. He also expressed gratitude to the residents of Nauni and Shamrod panchayats for their cooperation and support.
Madan Himachali, Pradhan of Nauni Panchayat and Nand Ram, Pradhan of Shamrod Panchayat, appreciated the contributions made by the NSS volunteers in their respective Panchayats. A cultural programme presented by the students marked the closing ceremony. Dr Chaman Lal Thakur, Dean, College of Forestry and Dr Manish Kumar, Dean, College of Horticulture, also graced the occasion and commended the students for their commitment and service.
The seven-day NSS camps proved to be a meaningful and enriching experience for the volunteers, strengthening the bond between the university and the rural community while reinforcing the core NSS motto—‘Not Me, But You.’
