The celebrations, aligned with the national theme “Har Gali Har Maidaan, Khele Saara Hindustan,” aimed to promote fitness, teamwork, and the spirit of sportsmanship among students, faculty, and staff, while honoring the legacy of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

Ludhiana, August 29, 2025: The ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Ludhiana, marked National Sports Day 2025 with vibrant enthusiasm, hosting a series of indoor sports events, including chess, carrom, and table tennis tournaments. The celebrations, aligned with the national theme “Har Gali Har Maidaan, Khele Saara Hindustan,” aimed to promote fitness, teamwork, and the spirit of sportsmanship among students, faculty, and staff, while honoring the legacy of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The day-long event was inaugurated by Prof. Inder Pawar, Dean of ESIC Medical College, who emphasized the importance of sports in fostering physical and mental well-being. “National Sports Day is a reminder of our commitment to nurturing a healthy and active community. Through these events, we encourage our students and staff to embrace the values of discipline, perseverance, and unity,” he said during the opening ceremony held at the college’s indoor sports complex.
The tournaments saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and hospital staff, with separate categories for men and women to ensure inclusivity. The chess competition featured intense matches, showcasing strategic prowess, while the carrom boards buzzed with excitement as players displayed precision and skill. The table tennis event was a highlight, with fast-paced rallies drawing cheers from spectators. Over 100 participants competed across the three sports, with matches organized in a knockout format to determine the winners.
Dr. Aparajita De’souza, Medical Superintendent, lauded the participants for their spirited involvement. “These events not only celebrate sports but also strengthen our community bonds. We are proud to provide a platform for our students and staff to showcase their talents,” she remarked. The events were held in the college’s well-equipped sports facilities, which include dedicated spaces for indoor games, reflecting ESIC’s commitment to holistic development.
Nursing Team was awarded Major Dhyan Chand Trophy for gaining maximum points.
Winners and runners-up in each category were awarded medals and  during a closing ceremony, graced by senior faculty members and ESIC officials.
