Rohtak, October 10, 2026: A mythological enactment highlighting Lord Vishnu’s patience, humility and forgiveness stole the spotlight as the Ramlila Mahotsav and Dussehra Mela opened at the Old ITI ground today.
Organised by the Shri Ramlila Utsav Committee, the festival began with colourful cultural performances, elaborate tableaux, floral showers and fireworks, drawing a large gathering of devotees.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by former mayor Manmohan Goyal, chief patron and industrialist Rajesh Jain, and other dignitaries in the presence of Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kapil Puri.
The highlight of the evening was a play depicting Bhrigu Rishi’s test of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh to determine the most patient and tolerant among the Trinity. The sequence in which Bhrigu kicked Lord Vishnu on the chest, only for the deity to respond by asking whether the sage had hurt his feet, drew particular attention. The episode conveyed a message of humility, forgiveness and freedom from ego. The play also depicted Goddess Lakshmi’s displeasure and her departure from Vaikuntha.
Directed by Leeladhar, the performance was accompanied by Ganesh Vandana, a grand court scene of Maharaja Agrasen, tableaux of Lord Krishna, a divine Raas, Phoolon Ki Holi and Ashtalakshmi Aarti. A drone showered flowers over the gathering, while colourful fireworks and a specially illuminated comet added to the spectacle.
A large number of residents, committee members and other dignitaries attended the inaugural evening.
