Rohtak, May 22, 2026: Amidst a changing climatic landscape and employment challenges, agriculture-based startups are poised to bring new opportunities for rural youth. In this direction, MDU will now formulate a roadmap for agricultural innovation and technology-driven startups. MDU is preparing to launch a joint initiative in collaboration with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia held detailed discussions with Dr. Rabi Narayan Sahu, Principal Scientist and Program Lead at ICAR, Pusa (New Delhi). During the meeting, deliberations were held regarding the framework for agriculture-based startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship training programs for the youth.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia said that the future belongs to climate change adaptation and entrepreneurship; as such, agriculture and agri-technology-based startups can offer excellent self-employment opportunities to rural youth. He urged Dr. Sahu to organize awareness and training programs at MDU so that the youth of the state can connect with new opportunities aligned with the evolving agricultural landscape.

Dr. Rabi Narayan Sahu noted that his institute is India's premier agricultural research organization, having played a pivotal role in the development of the agricultural sector—including the Green Revolution—in India. He assured MDU of every possible support.

Also present at the meeting were Dr. Sunil Kumar, Principal Scientist at the Centre for Agricultural Bioinformatics, IASRI (ICAR); Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar from the Department of Bioinformatics at MDU; and Sunit Mukherjee, Director of Public Relations.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal and discussed this significant subject. The Registrar expressed hope that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MDU and IARI would prove beneficial for students in the future.
