MDU Signs MoU with BECIL to establish a Community Radio Station

MDU, Rohtak today took a significant step towards community-based communication and outreach by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), a Mini Ratna Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

Rohtak, November 13, 2025: MDU, Rohtak today took a significant step towards community-based communication and outreach by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), a Mini Ratna Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

This agreement paves the way for the establishment of a modern Community Radio Station (CRS) in the University's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, which is expected to commence broadcasting by January 26, 2026. The MoU was signed between Dr. Krishna Kant, Registrar, MDU, and Khushvinder Singh, Deputy General Manager, BECIL.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajbir Singh said that this agreement is a major step towards the University's mission of connecting academia with society. He said that this community radio will become the voice of the people - connecting the university with local communities, students, farmers, and the citizens of Haryana. It will serve as a medium for education, awareness, and social change.

Registrar Dr. Krishna Kant said that this collaboration with BECIL is a major milestone in the university's pursuit of innovation and social engagement. Dean Academic Affairs Prof. S.C. Malik said that community radio will prove to be an educational and experiential achievement for the university. Prof. Randeep Rana, HOD Journalism and Mass Communication, described this initiative as a new chapter in the university's communication education.

The project will be completed within the stipulated time frame so that the community radio station can begin broadcasting by January 26, 2026. Under this project, a state-of-the-art studio equipped with modern equipment, digital audio workstations, and professional-grade broadcasting systems will be established.

Prof. Harish Dureja, Dean (R & D), Mukul, Project Manager, BECIL, Assistant Professor Sunit Mukherjee, Dr Naveen Kumar, Khairati Lal, and Amit Kumar were also present on the occasion.
