MDU Commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas

Rohtak, July 28, 2026: Paying tribute to the indomitable courage, unwavering determination, patriotism, and supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (MDU) organized a Kargil Vijay Diwas Commemoration programme today.

The programme was jointly organized by the Office of the Dean, Students' Welfare and the Centre for Jammu & Kashmir Studies. Renowned strategic affairs expert Captain (Dr.) Alok Bansal attended as the keynote speaker, former Haryana Minister Manish Grover was the Guest of Honour, and Brigadier Ram Naresh, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters (Rohtak), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Captain (Dr.) Alok Bansal said that the brave soldiers of India displayed extraordinary courage during the Kargil War and gave a befitting reply to the enemy, leading the nation to victory. He remarked that the war, fought under extremely challenging terrain and conditions, showcased the unmatched valour of the Indian Army before the world. He urged students and the younger generation to visit the Kargil War Memorial, considering it a place of national pilgrimage. He also paid homage to the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives in the conflict.

Former Minister Manish Grover said that the entire nation takes immense pride in the courage, bravery, and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. He emphasized that every Indian should remember Kargil Vijay Diwas and pay heartfelt tribute to the martyrs. He also highlighted Haryana’s significant contribution to the Indian Armed Forces, stating that around 12 percent of the country's soldiers belong to the state.

Chief Guest Brigadier Ram Naresh said that not only soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the nation but all those brave soldiers who serve the nation in the national interest deserve respect from society. He encouraged students to join the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation. He also recited a poem PUSHP KI ABHILASHA as a as a tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.

In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia said that the younger generation should draw inspiration from the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War and embrace the spirit of "Nation First." He expressed confidence that students would play a crucial role in realizing the national vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. The Vice-Chancellor also remembered the sacrifice of Lt. Kuldeep Rathi, an alumnus of the University Campus School who was martyred in service to the nation. He further shared that his maternal uncle, Colonel Jai Prakash Janu, was also martyred while fighting terrorists in Kashmir. He urged the youth to always think and work in the national interest.

Earlier, Dean, Students' Welfare Prof. Sapna Garg delivered the welcome address, while Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal proposed the vote of thanks. Among those present on the occasion were retired Army officer Colonel R.S. Suhag, eminent social worker Subhash Ahuja, Neena Bansal, Sunita Gehlawat, Dean, Director Youth Welfare Dr. Pratap Rathi, NCC Incharge Dr. Aarti, Dr. Vivek Balyan from the Centre for Jammu & Kashmir Studies, Colonel Sukhbinder Singh (Commanding Officer, 1 Haryana Battalion, NCC), members of the University community, NCC cadets, and students.
