Bengaluru, October 30, 2025: The silent struggle of a grandparent unable to play with their grandchildren, or a young dreamer side-lined by the ache of arthritis, these are conditions that steal mobility and hope from millions. To raise awareness and encourage people to take charge of their joint health, Manipal Hospital, Varthur Road, hosted Morning Miles, a community walkathon aimed at inspiring individuals to move, stay active, and prioritize timely care.
Dr. Yogishwar Veerappa, Consultant Orthopaedic & Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon, shared a powerful human story: “We’ve seen patients who couldn’t walk due to arthritis, their dreams stalled by pain. With treatments ranging from simple medications to advanced robotic joint replacements, they’re now pain-free and living fully. This walkathon, starting with a 30-minute daily walk, is a call to action. Get up, move, and treat arthritis to prevent it.”
Dr. Dinesh Manni, Consultant Orthopaedic & Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon, emphasized prevention: “Adopting a healthy lifestyle and addressing knee problems early can prevent arthritis. At Manipal Hospital, Varthur Road, we are committed to helping patients and their loved ones recover using the latest treatment methodologies.”
Early intervention remains key, as noted by Dr. Rajesh Srinivas, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon: “Identifying arthritis early can delay its progression and save joints from needing replacement. With physiotherapy, medications, and injections, we can manage most cases without surgery, offering hope to elderly patients and others.”
Highlighting advancements in joint care, Dr. Shivakumar Y.S., Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, said, “Robotic joint replacements have brought precision and assured outcomes, evolving over time to restore mobility. Yet, many patients hesitate due to lack of awareness about these reliable results. This event aims to bridge that gap.”
Thulasi, who was the Chief Guest of the event and underwent Robotic Total Knee Replacement at Manipal Hospital, Varthur Road, spoke about her journey: “For 20 years, arthritis robbed me of my daily life walking, sitting, even the simplest tasks felt impossible. I saw many doctors in Bangalore, but it was meeting Dr. Dinesh Manni that changed everything. His assurance gave me hope, and after my TKR surgery nine months ago, I’m back to my routine, walking comfortably, and living pain-free. It’s a new beginning!”
The walkathon, held from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Manipal Hospital, Varthur Road (covering a 1.5 KM radius), featured inspiring talks by doctors and patients alike. It was a celebration of mobility, resilience, and recovery honoring those who have turned their lives around with the right care. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 70 walkers, including students from Jain University, School of Allied Sciences – Whitefield Campus.
