Madhuri Dixit to play a serial killer in Jiohotstar’s Mrs Deshpande
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies, Mrs. Deshpande marks Madhuri Dixit’s most raw and unfiltered avatar yet
Mumbai: She is unpredictable, she is graceful, she is raw, SHE IS A KILLER! She is Mrs Deshpande and there is so much more to her than meets the eye. JioHotstar has announced the premiere date of its much-awaited thriller with Madhuri Dixit playing the lead role, in and as the titular Mrs. Deshpande. Bollywood’s dhak-dhak girl sheds the glamour and will be seen in an unseen and unpredictable avatar this December 19, 2025.
The chilling teaser gives the audiences an unsettling glimpse into the world of Mrs. Deshpande where Madhuri Dixit in a stark, de-glam avatar is quietly cutting vegetables while a radio bulletin discusses a serial killer on the loose. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the series builds its tension with remarkable restraint and precision, crafting a narrative that lingers long after it ends. Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Kukunoor Movies, the show is adapted from the original French thriller La Mante, produced by Jean Nainchric. It will also star Siddharth Chandekar and Priyanshu Chatterjee in key roles.
Director Nagesh Kukunoor said, "Mrs. Deshpande has been a truly fascinating and enjoyable journey for me. As I worked on the script, I saw only Madhuri in the title role and to have her play this complex character was an absolute joy. The deglamorized look is just the beginning as her character constantly keeps the audience second guessing the secrets that she hides behind the million watt smile. This character is a significant departure from anything the audience has ever seen her do and I guarantee that they will be blown away by her nuanced performance.”
Madhuri Dixit added, "Mrs Deshpande is unlike anything I’ve stepped into before. It’s raw, unfiltered, and strips away the glamour, audiences usually associate with me. She is the most complex character I've ever played - you constantly feel like you know her, till you don't. Playing a character with so many shades of grey has been both exciting and nerve-wracking! I'm eager for the audiences to see this thrilling, new side of me.”
Mrs. Deshpande is a gripping exploration of identity and hidden truths—the story of a woman who appears ordinary, but whose silence hints at something far more unsettling.
