Jalandhar, March 9, 2026: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised a friendly cricket match between the Teaching XI and Non-Teaching XI at the college playground to promote mental well-being, fitness and camaraderie among staff members. The institution regularly encourages such recreational activities to create a positive and healthy environment for both employees and students.
The match was played in a 16-over format, and the event was graced by Principal Rashpal Singh Sandhu as the chief guest. In his opening remarks, Dr. Sandhu wished both teams good luck and stated that friendly cricket matches are organised every year at the college. He added that such activities bring moments of joy, reduce stress and help maintain the fitness of both teaching and non-teaching staff. According to him, these matches also play an important role in creating a cheerful and cooperative atmosphere among the staff.
The Teaching XI team was led by Captain Dr. Arun Dev Sharma and included Dr. Dinkar Sharma, Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Prof. Sarabjit Singh, Dr. Palwinder Singh, Prof. Annie Goel, Prof. Ajay Kumar, Prof. Manvir Pal, Prof. Bhagwat Kumar, Prof. Karthik and Prof. Sahil. The Non-Teaching XI was captained by Sarabjit Singh and comprised Ranjit Singh, Sunil Kumar, Rakesh Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Gopi Chand, Inderjit Gill, Bhushan Verma, Harjit Singh, Mohit and Kuldeep Sidhu.
The non-teaching team won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 124 runs. In response, the Teaching XI successfully chased the target, scoring 125 runs in 12 overs to win the match. Prof. Satpal Singh, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Nagra and Dr. Daljit Kaur served as commentators during the match. Prof. Sandeep Ahuja, Mr. Ashwani Kumar and Prof. Manish Goel officiated as umpires, while Prof. Vikas Kumar, Prof. Navneet Arora and Mr. Amandeep Kumar maintained the scoreboard.
A large number of staff members and students were present as spectators and enthusiastically cheered for the teams. At the end of the event, Dr. S.S. Bains, Dean Sports, extended a vote of thanks to all participants and organisers for making the event a success.
