LPU Organised the 7th Gavelled Moot Court Competition 2026, Featuring India’s Emerging Legal Talent
30+ Teams from Across India Competed in Three Day National Moot Court at LPU
Jalandhar, April 8, 2026: The 7th Gavelled National Moot Court Competition at Lovely Professional University (LPU) brought together 30+ teams from institutions across India, including National Law Universities, central and state universities, and private institutions. The three day competition, organised by the School of Law, provided a focused platform for young legal minds to engage in rigorous courtroom proceedings, demonstrating strong analytical ability, clarity of thought, and persuasive advocacy.
The competition commenced with the ceremonial striking of the gavel by Hon’ble Justice Talwant Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Delhi, formally declaring the proceedings open and setting the tone for intellectually engaging deliberations. The moot proposition for this edition focused on contemporary issues in criminal law, examining aspects such as criminal liability, procedural lapses in investigation, and the admissibility and reliability of electronic evidence within an evolving legal framework.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, emphasised that legal education should go beyond theory and include practical exposure along with strong ethical values. Dr. Mittal also shared the University’s progressive Education Revolution Policy, which focuses on integrating real world learning through structured internships and on the job training (OJT) opportunities, enabling students to build practical competence alongside academic learning.
The preliminary rounds were conducted across 16 courtrooms and were adjudicated by advocates from the District Bar Associations of Ludhiana and Jalandhar. As the competition progressed, top performing teams advanced through successive stages including pre quarterfinals, quarterfinals, and semi finals, each round further intensifying the level of legal scrutiny and competition.
Hon’ble Mr Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, along with Major General Vijay Kumar, AVSM (Retd.), Former Judge Advocate General, adjudicated the grand finale. The competition concluded with a total cash prize of ₹1.12 lakh awarded across categories. Symbiosis Law School, Pune emerged as the winner and also secured the Best Memorial award, while Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur finished as the runner up.
University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh was awarded Best Researcher, while Lincoln College of Law, Sirhind secured the Best Mooter title. In the Rising Star categories, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, Army Institute of Law, and Guru Nanak Dev University, RC Jalandhar were recognised for Researcher, Memorial, and Mooter respectively.
Addressing the participants, Justice Nargal underscored that the foundation of the legal profession lies in integrity, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility. Justice Nargal encouraged aspiring lawyers to remain committed to upholding justice and constitutional values while contributing meaningfully to society. The occasion was further elevated by the presence of Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor of LPU, and H.R. Singla, Director General of LPU.
