Let us save higher education in Punjab

Ludhiana, September 19, 2021: A meeting on 'Let's Save Higher Education in Punjab' was organised at Punjab Trade Centre, Ludhiana today by various sections of the society to throw light on the escalation of problems in higher education of Punjab for a long time. Meeting was attended and addressed by Prof V.K Ghai, Prof V.P.Gaur, Prof K.S.Saini, Adv Naval Kishore Chibber, J.P. Kalra ( President SBI officer Association, Ludhiana), Manmohan Singh ( Gen Sec, PAU Emp. Union), Satish Sood (Gen Sec PAU Retirees’ Emp. Welfare Association), Rajinder Pal Singh Aulakh (Agricultural Technocrat), Maninder Singh (President Atam Nagar Cooperative Society), Maan Singh (Regional Sec LIC Emp. Union) Kuldeep Singh, Prof Tarun Ghai (Senator Panjab University Chandigarh).

While addressing the meeting Naresh Gaur said, that in this era of privatisation, he has put hold on significant hikes in student fee. He said that during his tenure as Senate and Syndicate Member Panjab University, Chandigarh, he regularly raised his voice for the cause of students and teachers. As a result, he and his fellow colleagues succeeded in making substantial reduction in proposed increase in the fees of students by the management.

Gaur said that a movement has been initiated to save the three universities- GNDU, Amritsar, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala. Since last 2 years some miscreants are trying to infiltrate in the managements of universities on large scale specifically the Panjab University, Chandigarh, a university which belongs to the people of Punjab and has produced eminent people like Dr Manmohan Singh and many others. Many more of such intellectual are needed to be produced. But they are hatching deep conspiracies to destroy this heritage of Punjab and turn it into a Central University. And their agenda is to abolish the people’s elected Senate and handover all the powers to their bosses. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that a representative from the common people must be sent to Senate to save the University and the Higher Education of Punjab.

He assured that if he is elected to the Panjab University, Senate, this time, he would definitely stand and struggle firmly for the betterment of Future of our young generation and also raise his voice against the exploitation and victimization of teachers at different levels in different ways. 

People from different walks of life such as lawyers, doctors, professors, bank employees, LIC employees, many students from different colleges of Punjab participated in the meeting and unanimously took a resolution to support Sh. Naresh Gaur in the upcoming Panjab University Senate Elections scheduled to be held on 26th September, 2021 Sunday and make him win this elections with thumping majority and send him to Senate as voice of common people.
