Lecture on the topic “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Martyrdom and Bani”
School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a lecture on the topic “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Martyrdom and Bani”, in the series of one month program, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Chandigarh, November 5, 2025: School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a lecture on the topic “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Martyrdom and Bani”, in the series of one month program, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgir (Norway) said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji went to different places in India for about fourteen years and propagated Sikhism. He informed about the historical importance of such religious places like Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Dhamdhan Sahib and introduced new aspects regarding such new insights.
At the same time, Dilgir mentioned the sacrifices of Mati Das, Sati Das, Bhai Dayala Ji for the Sikh faith and called these sacrifices a real religious work for humanity. He emphasised that there is also a need to preserve these places related to Sikhism as a heritage for the coming generations by making them museums.
Earlier, Yog Raj Angrish, Chairperson of the Department, formally welcomed the guest speakers and said that this program related to the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is not just a formal program but it is an important part of our vision of life. He said that the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji guides the society from various aspects.
Prof. Sarabjit Singh, organiser of the University program committee, while introducing the main speaker of the program, said that the work of Dilgir Sahib related to Sikhism is a valuable contribution to our society.
Prof. Gurpal Singh Sandhu expressed his views on the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and said that the various contexts of this martyrdom are still to be explored. Discussing the Bani of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, he said that it is necessary to examine the study of literature and religion simultaneously because scholars with literary standards can study religion properly through good language.
Dr. Sarabjit Singh thanked all the scholars and students present and presented two copies of the Departmentmental Journal to the Guest Speaker. The program was attended by Prof. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr Paramjit Kaur, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Sukhjit Kaur and teachers from the Guru Nanak Sikh Studies department.
